Entry-level Python Backend Engineer

Veryfi is a profitable, venture-backed software company in the heart of Silicon Valley, with a satellite office in Medellín, Colombia, Ciudad del Rio neighborhood.

Veryfi seeks an entry-level python backend engineer with either a university degree in computer science or who has developed and deployed a full-stack application to the cloud. The application must currently be live, have a url, and actually work. It could be a blog, could be a twitter clone. That’s fine, it just needs to be live, and work without erroring out.

This engineer will work directly with senior machine learning engineers to build applications that measure the accuracy of our machine learning models and create training data to create and improve our machine learning models.

ML experience is not required. However, the role will use ML regularly.

Requirements:

• Fluent in English.
• Intermediate Python. You should be able to do a medium LeetCode problem in less than 30 minutes without AI.
• Formidable. Does what they say they will do. Consistently executes, rarely gets blocked.
• Ambition. The candidate is serious about growing into a tech-lead, machine-learning engineer, or engineering manager in the next two years.
• Willingness and ability to understand our end users needs. When asked to build something that doesn’t make sense, negotiate for simpler solutions.
• Able to understand user needs, understand our team’s existing infrastructure and processes, and design multiple solutions to a single problem. Ability to clearly communicate tradeoffs of different design decisions.
• Ability to work in-office at our location in Ciudad del Rio, Medellín Colombia three days per week.

Ideal candidates have:

• Experience using Cursor, Claude Code, and other agents to quickly understand code and ship features.

Part 2: Screening interview (30 minutes)

We’ll talk to you and try to figure out if you’ve succeed in previous roles or in academics. Are you formidable? Are you smart and do you get things done?

Part 3: Coding without AI (45 minutes)

You’ll complete an easy and a medium LeetCode problem in 45 minutes, while screen sharing.

Part 4: Coding with AI (45 minutes)

You’ll receive an assignment to clean data while screen sharing. You’re free to use anything you want.

Part 5: Background check and reference check (2-4 days).

We’re a SOC2 audited company, handling customer’s financial documents. Still, we’re able to do this in a few days if your references are accessible.

Part 6: Offer letter.
