About the role
At Campfire, we’re building the next generation of games and entertainment powered by AI.
We’re building Sprites- our flagship AI toolset to build conversational AI agents for games and consumer apps.
To better build and showcase Sprites, we build next gen consumer experiences like Cozy Friends- our AI native “Animal Crossing with AI” game.
Sprites is B2B. Cozy Friends and other upcoming content/apps are B2C. You might get to work across both depending on the role.

We are a team of experienced product builders from Peloton, Microsoft, and Replika who've built products and games for millions of people. We're backed by some of the world's top tech and gaming investors including YCombinator and backers of Coinbase, Instacart and many more.
We're looking for a senior engineer to join our team! You'll be employee #5 and heart of the founding technical team.
You will work on building out the core Sprites product- from UIs, authentication, applied AI, payments, backend services, live operations, infrastructure and even more! You will have major influence on the company’s foundational stack.
Significant equity compensation is part of the deal.
If you scale at this role and have ambition, you can become the CTO.
You will:
- Help define and create our core technology stack architecture along with the technical founder
- Build features across the board- anything core features of the Sprites platform, to authentication and billing, and everything in between
- Develop server apps, cloud functions, cron jobs etc required to support live and networked user features such as push notifications
- Contribute to overall developer velocity by smartly investing in our tools
- Rapidly prototype ideas for growth features
You must have:
- Demonstrated history of being a hands on builder of snappy consumer or prosumer products- work or hobby projects
- 3+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer in web or mobile apps, having worked across the entire stack- UIs to infrastructure.
- You’re equally comfortable building a beautiful sign up flow pixel perfect to Figma designs and implementing a CSV sync integration.
- Deep experience with modern Javascript/Typescript, React (Remix), Express Swift with at least some familiarity with the others
- Familiarity with modern cloud platforms such as Google Cloud or AWS
- Experience with fundamentals of scaling backend- you know your auto scaling groups and load balancers
- Creative eye and a user-first mentality
- Passion for cutting edge of applied AI for consumers
Bonus Points for:
- Experience with live services and rapid-deployment
- Experience with multiplatform mobile product codebases like Unity, React Native, Flutter, etc
- Experience developing realtime multiplayer online products
- Desire to make huge impact at an early stage venture backed gaming startup with huge upside
We strongly prefer candidates based in San Francisco, California or Toronto, Ontario. For truly exceptional candidates, we’ll consider anyone who lives in the Americas and can work compatible hours with US time zones.
